A little rain couldn’t stop thousands of fans from packing Demonbreun Street near Music Row Wednesday night for the third annual “Capitol Street Party.” The free and open to the public music event, which was emceed by NASCAR's Michael Waltrip and Capitol Records President & CEO, Mike Dungan, didn’t disappoint as the event offered up performances from some of the label’s biggest superstars, Darius Rucker, Luke Bryan and surprise performer, Keith Urban, as well as new acts, Jennette McCurdy, Troy Olsen and Walker Hayes.
Capitol Nashville artists put on an incredible show for the fan-packed street. The love and mutual respect among the artists was apparent during several collaborations throughout the night. Surprise guest Keith Urban joined headliner Darius Rucker during his set. The two performed an acoustic version of Urban's hit "Raining on Sunday" as well as a rockin' version of The Steve Miller Band's "The Joker." Luke Bryan later joined Darius for a cover of the classic "Family Tradition."
“Bigger and better, cooler and funner, by all accounts, a smashing event!” Capitol President & CEO Mike Dungan exclaimed. “Hats off to SVP Marketing, Cindy Mabe, and her talented staff!”
A popular feature that returned from the last Capitol Street party was the opportunity for fans to text live to screen for the chance to win various prizes including; autographed Darius Rucker CDs, Street Party t-shirts and an autographed guitar signed by all of the night’s performers. This year, powered by Mozes, there were close to 3,000 texts sent.
The PENCIL Foundation was on site last night in a yellow school bus collecting brand new school supplies to benefit Metro public school students. They received over 5,000 items, everyone who donated an item got to meet Jennette McCurdy and get an autograph!
The success of the “Capitol Street Party 3” was made possible with the support of the many friends of Capitol Records Nashville including: Carl Black Chevrolet, LongHorn Steakhouse, United States Marine Corps, WME, and The Big 98 WSIX.
Here are some photos to enjoy from the event:
